Okay, so, I think Perez Hilton is a huge prick half the time, scrowling "whore" over all sorts of women's faces and the like; however, I am grateful someone in the liberal media (on an incredibly well-read blog at that) has finally strayed away from the lovefest over Obama. If you look here, Perez not only says he wishes Clinton had won the nomination, but he calls Obama out for flip-flopping!

In recent interviews, Obama has now said he won't aggressively fight the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy towards gays and lesbians and will not send his Attorney General to court to fight the 1996 "Defense of Marriage Act" that pretty much makes it okay for states to treat gays and lesbians like shit and just ignore the significance of their relationships in the name of protecting straight marriage (because, you know, gay marriage and straight marriage are totally mutually exclusive, right?).

The problem with Obama's policies, however, is that they won't get anything done. The man has campaigned on a need for change, but he is refusing to rock the boat! He has said he wants to get rid of both these discriminatory policies regarding gays and lesbians, but unless he takes some risks and actually goes to court to challenge these things, I don't think the military and the states are just going to change their bigotted minds on their own after all this time and no real visible shift in public opinion since these policies began in the 1990's. So, Obama, you can talk the talk all you like. But I don't care if you personally like the queer community and want people in it to be happy. None of these high-minded principles make a FUCKING DIFFERENCE unless you are ready as president to do battle when you need to in order to make change. Stop worrying about appealing to the social conservatives, because the minute you do, you're just like the rest. Who cares if you get elected if you have to cater to their prejudice?

Let's continue to call Obama on this shit any time he starts to change his policies. There's no point electing a liberal if his policies end up looking like a social conservative's in the end....
